Melmo Take (Elmo Cake)

Spencer turned two this week and was so excited about his special day. He has been asking for me to make him an Elmo cake for weeks. He could hardly contain himself when it came time to turn his dream into reality. He picked out the box of mix, helped me find the recipe from the cake doctor book, helped me measure and mix and then proudly danced around the kitchen floor singing about "melmo take" for the 35 minutes the cake was in the oven.
Much to his surprise the cake didn't come out of the oven decorated, and he looked a little disappointed that it didn't look like the picture when it came out of the pan.
I decorated the cake on his birthday during his nap, and his excitement couldn't be contained when he saw his fully decorated cake when he woke up. He showed our landscaper, he showed Connor, I even think he showed the cats his "melmo take".
Fast forward to the big moment: the lights are dimmed, the birthday song has been sung and it is time for Spencer to blow out his candles -- and he is too busy eating Elmo's eye to notice the flames. He is finally eating his melmo take!
